This is an important
chapter. It covers a lot of territory. Getting the interview
is one of the most difficult aspects of your search
effort. There are the gatekeepers, the nay-sayers (they
can't say “yes,” but they sure can say “no”), the terrorists
(they think you want their job and make it hard for
your candidacy) and many other types of people, each
with a different agenda than yours. Once you understand
the competition, you must explore the visible and hidden
job markets. Along the way, you will encounter recruiters,
human resource people, job fairs and many situational
opportunities. Knowing how to work with each is important.
